Quantum Sails is proud to be involved in making this boat-of-firsts fly, and in helping Nautor's Swan disrupt the world of sailing with this new one-design class aimed at giving the amateur sailor access to extreme performance. Using Quantum's iQ Technology® design tool, the Quantum Sails team worked closely with Nautor's Swan and Juan Kouyoumdjian to develop a high-performing rig and suite of sails fitting of the innovative, high-tech platform.

The foil-assisted ClubSwan 36 makes the fun and excitement of high-performance dinghy and keelboat racing accessible to a wide range of sailors. The innovative design boasts a flush deck, open cockpit, retractable bowsprit, chamfered bow, and transverse sliding C-foil. Above the deck, the Juan-K-designed carbon rig provides plenty of tuning opportunities while racing this innovative entry-level sports boat.

Quantum's all-purpose jib works seamlessly with our square top mainsail to make the boat fly without compromising ease of handling or repeatability. High-modulus carbon fibers are strategically run at 14000 dpi and secured between Quantum's ultralight, black VX skin with our proven Fusion M lamination process for unsurpassed shape retention, lasting strength and superior durability. Each sail is finished with high attention to detail given to the secondary construction elements, including head and corner reinforcements, edge tapes, and reef points.

Our iQ technology® designs are realized with Bainbridge Airx 650 (40%) and Bainbridge Airx 600 (60%) fabric in an elaborate tri-radial layout for that optimum tread pattern no matter what the conditions are. After the panels are cut with a precision laser, they are assembled with generously dimensioned and multi-layered reinforcements. Scott Nixon

Scott Nixon has been involved with racing his whole life. An All-American sailor at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Scott later coached many students to the All-American ranks at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. He has a wide range of racing experiences, including dinghies, One Design keelboats, inshore big boats, and offshore distance racing.

Scott joined Quantum Sails in 2000, and his experiences bring a unique skill-set to Quantum’s programs. Focusing primarily on One Design classes, he is directly involved in testing, design, and development of Quantum’s One Design sail programs, working directly with the design team to make sure Quantum® sails are at the front of the fleet.

Scott has sailed with Quantum customers to win championships at the world, Gold Cup, European, North American, and national levels. His hands-on approach includes active campaigns and racing in the following classes for Quantum: J/22, J/24, J/70, J/80, J/109, J/111, C&C 30, Farr 30, Farr 40, NYYC 42, Swan 45, Melges 20, Melges 24, and Melges 32.

Sven Krause

Sven has over 30 years of experience as a sailmaker and sail designer. Naturally, Sven is an active sailor: he has sailed with the German team in multiple Admiral’s Cups and in countless national and international regattas in many classes, including Megayachts. His experience makes Sven a trusted resource for all cruising and racing sailors and for all question concerning the rig and sails.

Carlo Fracassoli

Born and raised on Garda Lake, sailing has been Carlo Fracassoli’s favorite sport since childhood. It’s no surprise that he become a professional sailor in 2001. In 2003, he began collaborating in the development of racing and cruising sails for some of the industry’s best known sails brands. He designed sails for monotypes and had great results on the water.

In 2012, Carlo and Manlio Pozzoli opened their own sailmaking loft and affiliated with Quantum Sails as the Quantum Pro-Laghi S.N.C. loft. Since then, he has designed most of the sails sold by the Italian sales team. A One-Design specialist, Carlo designs many sails for Melges 20, 24, and 32 classes, Garda and European lakes monotypes, and ORC and IRC offshore boats.

An accomplished sailor, he won the Melges 24 World Championship in 2012, 2017 and 2019 and the European Championship in 2011 and 2018.

Vittorio d'Albertas

Vittorio d’Albertas started his career designing sails in Italy and Denmark before returning to Italy in 2010 to open Quantum SDG Italy with Filippo Jannello and Francesco “Paco” Rebaudi. As a designer, Vittorio has created sails for boats of all sizes, from small One Designs to the largest and most beautiful yachts of the world. Whether he’s designing cruising or racing sails, his approach is always committed to improving performance and sailing pleasure by looking at the big picture, not only the sails. A self-proclaimed sailing maniac, Vittorio doesn’t just design sails, he uses them too. Owner of a Dinghy 12' and a Finn, when he’s not in the loft, you can usually find Vittorio on the water.

David Flynn

David brings a unique combination of sailmaking, sailing and teaching experience to the Quantum team. A sailmaker with experience in all aspects of design, he provides a balanced perspective, having worked with North, Horizon and Doyle during his 30 year career. He has been with Quantum since its formation in 1996.

David’s racing background covers a broad spectrum, from dinghies and offshore One Designs to custom big boats. He has participated in winning programs at every level, including multiple national, North American, and world championships. David has also found time to win the Trans Atlantic, Fastnet, Bermuda, and a number of other major open ocean events.

For the last two decades, his principle focus has been offshore One Design. An in-demand speed doctor, David has an exceptional eye for sail shape and a feel for the subtle alterations of trim and tuning that make boats go. He has been instrumental in developing Quantum tuning guides and systems for many of the leading offshore One Design classes, including the One Design 48, Farr 30, J/24, J/30, J/105, Farr 40, One Design 35, and Swan 45. He is currently coordinating Quantum’s efforts in the new C&C 30 One Design class, and has been tasked with coordinating design, engineering, and project management for many of Quantum’s big-boat cruising programs.
